Dorzie had a plan; release an EP on valentines day, and that he did. The knockout, two punch combo in the form of the two tracks “Dead Rose” and “Why You Lying” shows that Dorzie has the potential to be a great artist in the future. This theme of this EP is obviously romance, with the artist showing his two faced character towards love.
In the title track “Dead Rose” listeners are given a very vulnerable side to Dorzie, with the artist exposing his inner feelings towards a female with him not being in touch with his feelings towards her until he finds out that it’s too late. The somber context of the track is added to with the instrumental and the melodic performance from the artist. As a listener you can almost feel Dorzie’s pain as he realises that the kindle of love that he once shared with this girl is gone. This track is definitely for those suffering from a bad break up and it shows how Dorzie can relate to his audience.
“Why You Lying” shows a different side to Dorzie’s personality as he plays the role of man full of confidence when interacting with the other sex over a trap beat. Lyrics like “She be telling my friends she’s my hoe now” and “She never want me to leave/ Yeah she be begging me please” help reinforce the the confident attitude that the artist is going for. This track definitely offers more energy than it’s predecessor with the beat made by Max. functioning at a faster tempo while also having moments in which the 8o8 bass hits to add a drop-like aspect to the track. I could definitely see this song being played in a club/party scenario.
“Dead Rose” overall functions as an artistic statement from the artist, who before this hasn’t released any music. Dorzie was able to explore the topic of romance, while offering listeners two very contrasting scenarios when it comes to relationships. This is the sign of a growing artist who wants to continue to push his musical boundaries in the future, as we eagerly await for his next release…
