Collistar’s third EP is a big step for the artist, in this project he continues to consistently paint clear pictures within his verses all the while confronting meaningful topics that impacts the general population of Britain.
A highlight of the project”Welcome to Britain” reflects the difficulty of living in the U.K. without money all the while referencing typical British habits whether it being “your local dealer flashing the cash” or placing numerous bets at the bookies.
In the track “Rat Race” the artist delves deep into his creativity taking a narrative view on the massive “Rat Race” that everyone in London seems to be apart of over an old sample by John Cameron named “Liquid Sunshine”. Taking this stance allows Collistar to observe things; for example people “wasting their time on the world wide web” all the while the banks are putting everyone in a “world wide debt”.
The next track “10pm Ldn” features Milo as the two rappers tackle a somber beat that matches the title of the song perfectly. Both rappers choose to bring up the dark side of London on this song bringing images of “cold roads”, “broke homes” and confronting people “who send guys to take lives” which creates a brilliantly disturbing experience for the listener.
The EP finishes with a song that is likely to hit those born around the time with nostalgia “90’s Kid” featuring T3mpo. The songs nostalgic impact comes heavily from the images painted by the lyrics; for example “FIFA, Dragon Ball Z and Tekken, Baby cakes and 21 seconds ” as well as “back of the bus with the MP3’s, sugar rush from the 5p sweets”.
This project is definitely worth the listen and shows the potential this artist has within the underground Grime genre going forward.
